Disney, Give a Day, Get a Day - Yeah EPCOT!

February 6, 2010 Emily and I volunteered with other friends to paint at ECHO. (www.echofl.org) ECHO provides immediate relief in the forms of food, clothing, and household items to people that have experienced a recent emergency. ECHO assists about 300 families per month and has helped over 109,000 members since inception in 1987, over half of them children and all in the greater Brandon, FL area.
Not only did Emily learn painting techniques such as how to use a roller and paintbrush; she spent time with friends completing a task for an important local charity. The reward was a free pass to Disney.
Yesterday (3/8/2010) we took advantage of her being out of school due to Fair Day and headed to Orlando. Destination: EPCOT. This was Emily’s first visit to EPCOT and she had fun exploring the World Showcase where we learned in China that she was born in the Year of the Rat and I was born in the Year of the Dragon. EPCOT is in the midst of their annual Flower and Garden Festival and we enjoyed the butterfly house, intricate gardens, and incredible topiaries throughout the park. She loved the Test Track ride, designing a roller coaster in the EPCOT simulation area, learning about the experiments EPCOT is conducting in the field of horticulture, and the enormous aquarium. This opportunity offered by Disney is a great way to show little’s that when they give a little, they can get a lot - very similar to my experience with BB/BS. I give a fraction of my time but I have gained memories that will last me a lifetime. The weather was beautiful and the park is having their annual Garden event. Topiarys were everwhere. This is one of my favorites:
We lucked out in Great Britian. Pooh and Tigger had arrived and we waited about a minute to join the meet and greet! The wonderful thing about Tigger is.... you know the rest of the words.

In China some genius created mini topiarys of the animals that represent birth years. Emily was born in a year of the Rat. I was born in the year of the dragon.
I loved the dog topiary:
